Overview of Available Datasets
The NORC Data Enclave houses datasets from several producers encompassing a wide range of topical areas. The datasets we currently host are:
Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Making Connections Survey: This survey covers topics such as mobility, social capital and networks, neighborhood processes, resident perceptions and participation, economic hardship, the availability and utilization of services and resources, and child and adolescent well-being. The survey was conducted in Denver, Des Moines, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Seattle (White Center), Hartford, Milwaukee, Oakland, Providence, and Louisville.
United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS): ARMS is the primary source of information on America’s farm households and includes information about their financial condition, production practices, resource use, and economic well-being. ARMS is the only national survey that provides observations of field-level farm practices.
National Science Foundation’s Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED): The SED gathers information annually from 45,000 new U.S. research doctorate graduates about their educational histories, funding sources, and post-doctoral plans. Selected variables from the SED can be accessed through an online tabulation engine: https://ncses.norc.org/NSFTabEngine/
National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Technology Innovation Program (TIP) Surveys: The NORC Data Enclave houses three surveys that record information about the characteristics of firms that have been awarded NIST’s Advanced Technology Program (ATP) grants. The three surveys are Business Reporting Surveys, Survey of Applicants, and Joint Venture Surveys.
Kauffman Foundation’s Kauffman Firm Survey (KFS): The Kauffman Firm Survey (KFS) is the largest longitudinal study of new businesses, and focuses on the nature of new business formation activity; characteristics of the strategy, offerings, and employment patterns of new businesses; the nature of the financial and organizational arrangements of these businesses; and the characteristics of their founders.
Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS): The NORC Data Enclave hosts several confidential Medicare claims datasets. Researchers from NORC and IMPAQ are currently utilizing the secure enclave data access platform to create public use files from the confidential datasets.
